OEM & Private Label Actuators: The Complete Process

By the SJMC engineering team · Updated 2026-09-19

Private label actuator program documentation

Private labeling sounds simple — put your logo on someone's product — but distributors who have been burned by bad OEM deals know the real questions: What exactly gets customized? Who owns the customer? What happens when something fails? How do I leave if it doesn't work?

This guide answers those questions with the actual SJMC process, step by step, numbers included. It is the same document our partner manager walks through on the first video call.

What gets branded — and what stays SJMC

Honest scope: you own the customer-facing identity; SJMC owns the manufacturing quality system behind it.

  • Yours: logo on the nameplate and enclosure, your model naming scheme, your colors, your catalog and marketing materials.
  • SJMC's: the quality system — component standardization, five inspection gates, 100% power-on testing, the 18-month warranty backing.
  • Shared: the platform. Internal components are standardized across the line so your service stock stays simple and your warranty claims get fast root-cause answers.

The process, step by step

From first contact to your brand in the market — the real timeline with the real numbers.

  • Step 1 — Apply (48-hour response): market, experience, goals. A person reviews it, not a bot.
  • Step 2 — Video call: product selection, branding options, territory definition, commercial terms with our engineering lead.
  • Step 3 — Paid samples (1–3 units): tear down, run, show your best customer. Money-back within 7 days.
  • Step 4 — Launch order (20–30 units): your branding applied, delivered in 15–20 working days. Territory protection activates.
  • Ongoing: quarterly business reviews, annual rebate (1–2% at license tier), engineering support with 72-hour response commitments.

Territory protection: how it actually works

The most common fear about private label: 'will you sell my competitor the same product with his logo?'

  • Contractually: exclusive territory written into the partner agreement.
  • Mechanically: every unit carries a serial number bound to that territory.
  • Structurally: SJMC controls core components centrally — no parallel supply channel can appear.
  • Enforced: a partner who cross-sells into another territory loses supply. The clause is real and applied.

The entry math, honestly

First order: 10 units, product cost under US$3,500 ex-works. A typical JVX-01 sells at street prices 35–50% above supply — the launch pays for itself in the first handful of sales. If the market doesn't respond, you exit with your customers and a sample inventory you can still sell. The risk is deliberately yours to size.

  • Private label from 10 units — Logo, colors and model naming on any JVX platform.
  • Territory protection — Serial-number enforced, written into the partner agreement.
  • Launch package — First 3 signed partners: zero launch fee, free branded sample, catalog and logistics subsidy.

Frequently asked questions

What are the branding MOQ and lead times?

Branding MOQ is 10 units. After a paid sample round, launch orders deliver in 15–20 working days with your nameplate, colors and model naming applied.

Who owns the customer relationship?

You do. Your customers know your brand and buy from you. SJMC supplies behind the scenes and does not sell into your territory — contractually enforced by serial numbers.

What if there is a warranty claim from my customer?

Your customer contacts you; you contact us. 2% free warranty spares ship with every order, the full-unit warranty runs 18 months from port arrival, and complex failures get engineering response within 72 hours.
